Calm the March Madness with Good Skincare

March 1, 2022

While sports fans have their minds on “The Big Dance” of the NCAA, those of us in the skincare industry have our minds on the dance of transitioning our skincare routine from winter to spring.

Not only are we considering how to look our best as we approach the summer months but we realize skin has different needs depending on the season. Some of us are even recovering from flare-ups of eczema and psoriasis caused by the extreme temps of the winter weather and oh so ready for that positive change.

How Does Our Skin React to the Weather?

The shift in temperature and humidity are challenges to our skins health. As the dry winter weather subsides and our natural oils need to rebalance. We may experience an increase in oiliness initiating acne breakouts. Others experience skin allergies triggered by mold and spring flower and grass pollens. These instigators are the precise reason we need to let go of our winter skincare habits and switch over to skincare products and techniques best utilized in the spring.

Skincare Tips to Rid You of March Madness & Bring on A Healthy Spring Time Glow:

  • Exfoliate – restore your skins radiance by removing the dry dead surface cells left from the winter months. We recommend using Avene’s Gentle Exfoliating Gel once every two weeks.
  • Amp up your Sun Protection – while applying SPF year-round is important, warmer weather will bring you outdoors during prime time for sun exposure. Make sure your sunscreen is at least SPF 30 and you’re reapplying every two hours. We have a variety of tinted and non-tinted medical grade sunscreen products available in our office.
  • Change your Moisturizer - use a light moisturizer like Alastin Ultra Nourishing Moisturizer or our Desjarlais Hyaluronic Acid.
  • Do some Spring Cleaning to Products and Accessories – to avoid adding extra dirt and bacteria you should be cleaning your brushes every 7-10 days with soap and hot water, as well as disposing of and replacing any old makeup, sunscreen and other skincare products.
  • Consider a few new products to your skin maintenance program
  • An Antioxidant to protect from free radicals to reduce signs of premature aging (Glytone C+ Advanced Antioxidant Serum featuring Vitamins C and E and Squalane to boost skin's moisture).
  • Retinol to help with fine lines and wrinkles (Skinbetter AlphaRet Overnight Cream)
  • A Product for pigment problems like sunspots, age spots, freckling, and melasma. We recommend using Skinbetter EvenTone Correcting Serum.

Make the Last Days of Winter Skintastic with Laser Treatments

During the frigid days of winter, people stay indoors longer and find it easier to hideaway and recover from laser treatments. The untanned skin of winter is ideal to maximize the results and safety of your laser treatments. For those in need of repairing damaged skin, two very popular treatments are laser skin resurfacing (Morpheus8) or broadband light (BBL). A consultation with a board certified dermatologist provides an expert evaluation and maximizes your treatment results.

BBL. Sunlight is the cause of many forms of skin damage and disease. BBL is considered to provide the most enhanced results for sun damage and skin color abnormalities – like hyperpigmentation and rosacea. Broadband light stimulates collagen renewal and brings pigment up to the top layer to exfoliate and reduce redness from excess veins in the skin. All revealing more natural, healthy-looking skin, and reducing the aging process.

Morpheus8. The most popular microneedle device delivering radiofrequency generated heat to all layers of the skin. In demand by celebrities for its ability to tightening skin, reduce fine lines and pores and acne scarring. Radiofrequency microneedles from Morpheus maximizes collagen remodeling and renewal over time. Scheduling your treatments before the end of March will guarantee you’ll be able to greet springtime with a radiant complexion that lasts all through the summer months.

Like any seasonal habit, it’s wise to refresh your skincare routine with a little bit of purging, cleaning, updating and restoring. And just like all of the success stories within The Big Dance of the NCAA, time and commitment will bring you beautiful results and healthy skin. So shake off the winter blues, bring on March Madness and get your skin ready for spring.
